New Paranormal Museum in Gettysburg

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Now a brand new paranormal museum is available in downtown Gettysburg; the location recently opened this Monday and is called the International Museum of Spiritual Investigations. The subject of ghosts and Gettysburg seem to go hand-in-hand, and now a new museum explores spirits in what has been deemed one of America’s most haunted destinations.

Twenty visitors toured the new museum when it opened this past Monday. The goal of this new location is “to give every patron, no matter what age, a look into investigating the spiritual realm and the evidence in locations of possible activities.”

The museum has an Ecto Café where patrons can have coffee and beverages, view paranormal televisions shows, and buy museum merchandise. Patrons can check out The United States Room which has an exhibit about Spiritual Investigations throughout the United States from photographic evidence to historical artifacts. There is also a place to listen into disembodied voices. Meanwhile, the museum also has an Overseas Room where patrons can check out paranormal evidence from other regions of the world including places like the Borley Rectory. The museum also has a Hall of the Afterlife with information on famous spiritual investigators.

The museum has hours of operation from 7 am to 8 pm daily and it is closed on many major holidays. You can view an entire schedule for the paranormal museum on the museum’s official website. You can also contact the museum by calling: 717-398-2026. The museum is located on 231 Baltimore Street in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The executive director of the museum is Jonathan Williams and the museum curator is Susan Williams.

Entry fee for admission is $4.50 per adult (ages 14 to 55), and seniors aged 55 and over can get into the museum for a fee of $3.50. Young adults ages 7 through 13 can also pay $3.50 for entry and children ages six and under can get into the museum for free. Close to 200 Dangerous Headstones Removed from Graveyard

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Nearly 200 headstones in a Christleton-based church in the United Kingdom have been removed, some of them dating back to the eighteenth century, because they were being tested for safety. If they are deemed unsafe they were removed due to instability issues. This was done under the order of Reverend Peter Lee of the St James’ Church. More than 180 stones were removed from the cemetery; the church claims surprise at such a large amount of headstones requiring removal for safety reasons.

Some relatives are rightfully angered and are considering suing the Church. They view the removal of the stones as a clear desecration of memories and many of the bereaved are greatly distressed. It is sad to see this event occurring, because grave stones are really historical monuments that stand as a representation of the individual that once lived. Every headstone is unique in its own right, and has deep significance to those that are still living. Even older headstones have great historical value and there will be much lost due to this move by the church.

What prompted the checking of headstones for stability? Apparently a young boy died in a cemetery after a falling headstone landed on him and killed him. The event has generated paranoia in the community, particularly in stone masons who are testing the headstones for stability issues. It sure would be interesting to conduct a paranormal investigation into the cemetery too; the evps gathered could prove interesting to say the least. It would be interesting to see if this event stirs up paranormal activity.

Pink Ouija Boards Targeting Young Audience

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Okay. Here’s a news bit that can make your blood boil and your hair stand up on end. Now, a pink Ouija board has been created to specifically target girls. The board is offered up in hot pink and is being marketed by, you guessed it, Hasbro. I guess the company has to get in on the whole paranormal surge and try to market their “toys” to the youth who might have some interest in playing around with spirits. The board is actually made for girls ages eight and over and it is being marketed for $20.00.

Stephen Phelan, the communication director for Human Life International, asserts that there are some dangerous spiritual elements to the board and the board is not just a game. I have to agree. Our team has conducted a number of investigations where an Ouija board was used and the paranormal activity either started up or accelerated and intensified dramatically. Now some people may outwardly wonder if the board is so dangerous than how can Hasbro be marketing it as a toy for so many years. The answer to such a question is simple; since when has big business worried about the ramifications of the products it sells? After all, business is business. Of course, there is the argument that “hey, it’s just a toy and it doesn’t really work,” right? Again, that depends on who you talk too.

According to Patricia Riso, a spokeswoman for Hasbro, the game is just a game, it’s for fun and entertainment; this was the response to the several dozen complaints the company got for marketing the pink Ouija board. Fun and entertainment? Oh, yeah, a real blast! Basically, the argument goes if you feel that badly about it, don’t buy it. Well, here’s an alternative argument; even if parents don’t buy it, it doesn’t mean that somehow, someway the board won’t get into the hands of a youngster.

Let’s face it, even if the board doesn’t open up any spiritual doorways or portals and nothing paranormal manifests, what about the potential psychological ramifications? Imagine young girls getting scared crapless at an overnight sleepover because they sat around with their friends playing with a pink Ouija board. Now, even if the board is manipulated by another child, who’s to say what level of terror they can invoke in another child. Yep, that sounds like real good solid, fun, and entertainment. Definitely age appropriate right? NOT!

New Paranormal Research Facility in Harpers Ferry

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

In Harpers Ferry in Jefferson County, West Virginia, a new paranormal research facility will open its doors in March 2010. The area is filled with ghost stories and legends and now, the alleged haunted Booth House, a 180 year old structure, will be opened up as a paranormal research teaching facility. The location known as Haunted Cottage will contain some 500 books on the paranormal, some dating back 100 years or more, and the books can be used to research the paranormal and paranormal events. There will also be lessons on how to use paranormal research equipment like digital recorders and electromagnetic field detectors to conduct paranormal research.

According to Vince Wilson, a paranormal investigator, the Haunted Cottage will strive to re-educate people on the history of paranormal occurrences dating as far back as ancient Babylonia; this will demonstrate that people have maintained a belief in the afterlife for millennia and that there is definitely a spiritual side to the universe. Wilson also hopes to reverse or undo some of the stigma surrounding the paranormal brought on by the entertainment industry’s portrayal of paranormal research and paranormal experiences.

The Haunted Cottage or Booth House earned it’s named because it is believed that John Wilkes Booth, the man famed for assassinating president Abraham Lincoln, had at one time stayed at the cottage. The site also conducts haunted tours, haunted overnight events, and haunted weekend stays at the Haunted Cottage in Harper Ferry too. For further information about the Haunted Cottage you can call 304-885-0707 or you can email Vince Wilson at vince@harpersferryhaunts.com.

Paranormal Activity Being Blamed for a Bad Basketball Game

Monday, January 18th, 2010

In a recent news article on Southcoasttoday.com, a story reveals how some of the team members of the Knicks were disturbed, not by the team they were playing against, but by some paranormal activity they experienced during their stay at the Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City. The game between the Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunders ended with the Knicks losing to OKT 88 to 106.

The news article reports how several team members were affected by paranormal activity and how some of them didn’t get enough sleep at night because they became convinced that the hotel they were staying in was haunted. Jared Jeffries, signed by the Knicks in 2006, is cited as saying that he definitely believes the location is haunted and the hotel was scary to stay in. The news report also tells how Eddy Curry, a center for the Knicks, only managed to get a total of two hours of sleep Sunday evening, the night before the game, because he couldn’t stop obsessing about the possibility of unseen entities roaming around in the halls of the Skirvin Hilton. Curry was so disturbed that he ended up spending the majority of his time in Nate Robinson’s hotel room, and Curry sincerely believes that the hotel halls are haunted.

These reports are not new reports for the Skirvin Hilton since guests have commonly reported having strange experiences, sightings, and hearing unexplained noises in the hotel. According to some tales, it is believed that a woman committed suicide at the hotel in the 1930s and that she jumped from the tenth floor of the hotel with her baby in her arms. In contrast, some stories suggest that the woman jumped off the 14th floor after being kept hostage in the upper levels of the hotel by the owner of the hotel who got her pregnant and wanted to avoid a scandal. Common reports by guests include hearing screams of a female, items being moved by something unseen, the sighting of female apparitions, and males staying in the hotel have reported hearing the voice of a woman propositioning them. Some reports include seeing a woman in the bathroom, and one guest once reported seeing a female apparition in his bed when he awoke. The female that committed suicide along with her child are also reported apparitions seen at the hotel.

Herb Williams, the assistant coach for the Knicks, teased Curry and Jeffries about believing in ghosts and believing that the hotel was haunted, but Curry didn’t find the situation something to laugh about. The team ended up blaming the game loss on the lack of sleep they had the night before and the uncomfortable two days that they spent at the hotel. It should be duly noted however, that Curry, as well as Robinson, have both been benched by the Knicks coach, Mike D’Antoni until this point. So was it a lack of sleep, paranormal disturbances, and ghostly activity or a lack of time out on the court that is responsible for the lost game played against the Oklahoma City Thunders?

According to Dan Gordon, one of the authors of Haunted Baseball: Ghosts, Curses, Legends and Eerie Events, published in 2007 by The Lyons Press, it is not uncommon for athletes on the road to complain about experiencing paranormal activity. Gordon co-authored the book with Mickey Bradley, and the authors explain that there are a number of hotels across the nation where professional athletes stay that have reports of ongoing paranormal activity. Gordon explains that for a professional athlete that is on the road, tired, exhausted, and away for home for months at a time, the thoughts of dealing with paranormal activity are doubly disturbing.

The Skirvin Hotel has been mentioned in books like the book Ghostlahoma written by Tammy Wilson and Tonya Hacker. The two authors conducted research on the hotel for a period of two months before writing about it. The research revealed a number of unexplainable events that were not necessarily frightening but that could suggest ongoing paranormal activity in the location.

The Skirvin Hotel was originally opened in the early 1900s, and the building was later renovated in 1925 when a new wing consisting of 12 storeys was added to the establishment. More renovations were conducted in 1930 when the three wings of the building were leveled with an add on to each wing giving the three building wings 14 floors each. The hotel is located at 1 Park Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in downtown Oklahoma city on the corner of North Broadway and Park Avenue nearby the Cox Convention Center. In the 1970s the hotel was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Additional renovations occurred in 2004, and after several years of being closed, the hotel was reopened to the public in mid-2007.
