Chocolate Lovers Less Likely to Have a Stroke

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

In an article on the Telegraph.co.uk, it has revealed that eating chocolate on a regular basis might actually prevent people from having a stroke. Researchers studied close to fifty thousand individuals and discovered that those individuals that ate chocolate were 22 percent less likely to have a stroke than those individuals that do not eat chocolate. What’s more, people that have had a stroke in the past but that began eating chocolate were as much as 46 percent less likely to die.

Chocolate contains flavonoids as well as antioxidants according to the researchers from the University of Toronto who conducted a study. The question remains however, if eating chocolate reduces stroke risks or if healthier people are simply more prone to eating chocolate.

An additional study reveals that eating fifty grams of chocolate weekly can reduce the risk of dying from a stroke as much as 46 percent. Now people have a reason to feel less guilty for consuming that tasty box of chocolates received on Valentine’s Day. Being a serious chocolate lover myself, this is great news for me. While this is not necessarily paranormal news, it certainly is an interesting study.

The key is to consume it in moderation because chocolates are also high in saturated fats and can cause considerable weight gain. Of course, that’s easier said than done! More on the findings of the research linking chocolate consumption to reduced stroke risks is set to be presented at the American Academy of Neurology’s 62nd Annual Meeting hosted in Toronto.

The Italians Find the Movie Paranormal Activity Way Too Frightening

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Right now, the Italian government is giving consideration to placing some restrictions on the movie Paranormal Activity after some of the movie goers had panic attacks. These events have caused consumer groups and childrens’ organizations to cite concerns about the film and its accessibility.

Viewers were tended to by emergency units after placing complaints about having palpitations and anxiety immediately after viewing Paranormal Activity. A fourteen year old was so disturbed that she was in shock and was given oxygen just outside the cinema where she viewed the film. Presently, the movie has no viewer restrictions in Italy; that was kind of silly because it is a horror movie and it really shouldn’t be considered okay for young kids.

Codacons, a consumer group, is now threatening to go to the courts for minors that have been terrified by the movie. According to Ignazio La Russa, the Defense Minister, the movie’s trailer should not be offered on television where young children can see it.

Okay, I get that the movie is probably not ideal for children, but come on folks. I’ve seen the movie. It’s not that scary. It really isn’t. The reaction to Paranormal Activity is blown way out of proportion; I’ve seen movies that were far more disturbing than this one and you don’t see them making headlines and giving people panic attacks. Honestly; if you are an adult and find this kind of stuff that disturbing you shouldn’t be watching “scary” movies in the first place.

Goat Sucker Blamed for Chicken Deaths

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

In an article appearing on the elpasotimes.com, another story about a potential chupacabra attack emerges. Juan Miranda and Cesar Garcia, two men residing in Horizon City, Texas are blaming a chupacabra attack for the death of 30 of their chickens.

Miranda and Garcia have been living in Horizon City since they moved to the location from Chicago three years ago. According to the two men, their rabbits are presently hiding, the cat would not come down off the roof of their home for the entire weekend, their roosters did not crow and their dog did not bark, yet they discovered 20 chickens dead.

Garcia explained that he awoke on Saturday morning to find the 20 chickens had been killed, but that it was especially strange because there was no blood around the inside of the chicken coop. The chickens were all laying dead in a large pile. Garcia reasons that if it were a dog or some other animal that had been responsible for killing the chickens that there would have been a lot more blood and a far bigger mess. Yet, no human is responsible for the attack either, because Garcia photographed some strange tracks by the chicken coop that were clearly not human. The wounds found in each chicken appeared to be two small holes poked through their backs. The tracks were clearly consisting of a heel and paw. The men followed the tracks past their home, over a fence, and four blocks away before the tracks just seemingly disappeared.

On Sunday morning 10 more dead chickens were found dead inside a different chicken coop, and they were all killed in the same fashion. Miranda was surprised that none of the three dogs that they own barked to notify the family of any kind of intruder. According to the director of the Paso Del Norte Paranormal Society, Henry Flores, the paranormal investigative group researched the chupacabra in the northeast El Paso as well as in Chaparral. The team is now thinking of expanding their research to include the Horizon City region.

In the mid 1990s the first reports of the Chupacabra, otherwise called goat sucker, was reported in Puerto Rico. Following the first report, additional reports of chupacabra attacks began cropping up in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and the United States. The creature is commonly described as either having a reptilian appearance with a greenish colored skin that is scaly, and sometimes it is described as having sharp quills or spines on its back. Sometimes the creature is described as having a panther like face, large fangs, and a forked tongue. Some say that the chupacabra hisses and/or screeches when it has been alarmed and that it also leaves behind a bizarre, sulfuric odor. Meanwhile, other reports describe the chupacabra as appearing to be like a hairless dog with fangs. The creature is believed to feed on a variety of animals and not just goats; it is said that it will feed on birds, chickens, dogs, and horses too, sucking out their blood and sometimes organs too.

Pink Ouija Boards Targeting Young Audience

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Okay. Here’s a news bit that can make your blood boil and your hair stand up on end. Now, a pink Ouija board has been created to specifically target girls. The board is offered up in hot pink and is being marketed by, you guessed it, Hasbro. I guess the company has to get in on the whole paranormal surge and try to market their “toys” to the youth who might have some interest in playing around with spirits. The board is actually made for girls ages eight and over and it is being marketed for $20.00.

Stephen Phelan, the communication director for Human Life International, asserts that there are some dangerous spiritual elements to the board and the board is not just a game. I have to agree. Our team has conducted a number of investigations where an Ouija board was used and the paranormal activity either started up or accelerated and intensified dramatically. Now some people may outwardly wonder if the board is so dangerous than how can Hasbro be marketing it as a toy for so many years. The answer to such a question is simple; since when has big business worried about the ramifications of the products it sells? After all, business is business. Of course, there is the argument that “hey, it’s just a toy and it doesn’t really work,” right? Again, that depends on who you talk too.

According to Patricia Riso, a spokeswoman for Hasbro, the game is just a game, it’s for fun and entertainment; this was the response to the several dozen complaints the company got for marketing the pink Ouija board. Fun and entertainment? Oh, yeah, a real blast! Basically, the argument goes if you feel that badly about it, don’t buy it. Well, here’s an alternative argument; even if parents don’t buy it, it doesn’t mean that somehow, someway the board won’t get into the hands of a youngster.

Let’s face it, even if the board doesn’t open up any spiritual doorways or portals and nothing paranormal manifests, what about the potential psychological ramifications? Imagine young girls getting scared crapless at an overnight sleepover because they sat around with their friends playing with a pink Ouija board. Now, even if the board is manipulated by another child, who’s to say what level of terror they can invoke in another child. Yep, that sounds like real good solid, fun, and entertainment. Definitely age appropriate right? NOT!

New Paranormal Research Facility in Harpers Ferry

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

In Harpers Ferry in Jefferson County, West Virginia, a new paranormal research facility will open its doors in March 2010. The area is filled with ghost stories and legends and now, the alleged haunted Booth House, a 180 year old structure, will be opened up as a paranormal research teaching facility. The location known as Haunted Cottage will contain some 500 books on the paranormal, some dating back 100 years or more, and the books can be used to research the paranormal and paranormal events. There will also be lessons on how to use paranormal research equipment like digital recorders and electromagnetic field detectors to conduct paranormal research.

According to Vince Wilson, a paranormal investigator, the Haunted Cottage will strive to re-educate people on the history of paranormal occurrences dating as far back as ancient Babylonia; this will demonstrate that people have maintained a belief in the afterlife for millennia and that there is definitely a spiritual side to the universe. Wilson also hopes to reverse or undo some of the stigma surrounding the paranormal brought on by the entertainment industry’s portrayal of paranormal research and paranormal experiences.

The Haunted Cottage or Booth House earned it’s named because it is believed that John Wilkes Booth, the man famed for assassinating president Abraham Lincoln, had at one time stayed at the cottage. The site also conducts haunted tours, haunted overnight events, and haunted weekend stays at the Haunted Cottage in Harper Ferry too. For further information about the Haunted Cottage you can call 304-885-0707 or you can email Vince Wilson at vince@harpersferryhaunts.com.

The Unnecessary Use of Provocation in Paranormal Investigations

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

What happens when investigators go to sites where paranormal events are reported and the investigators decide to irritate or provoke a spirit into acting out, into manifesting or they try to force a spirit into showing itself through provocation? The short answer to this question is that the consequences of provocation will vary depending upon the spirit or entity being dealt with or it will depend upon the source of the activity and how irritated the entity becomes. It seems to be a growing trend among some investigators when it comes time to investigate a location to make an effort to provoke a spirit into action through harsh or vulgar words and taunts.

First of all, it’s important to realize that when you are “rattling the cage” of some unidentified spirit, you really have no idea what this spirit may be capable of doing. Even if you conduct a full interview with a client and find out about activity that has been going on in the home, you can’t know for sure how a spirit or entity will interact with you on site, especially if you provoke it to anger. To provoke something means to literally stir up or arouse the spirit/entity in an effort to incite resentment or anger, to irritate, to abrade, to aggravate, and to vex the spirit/entity.

What happens after investigators have concluded their investigation and they head home? If the spirit/entity remains at the location, chances are the investigators have now left the clients with a pretty aggravated spirit. Then what? How will the client deal with the rapid increase of activity and the acceleration of potentially violent activity if the spirit has been provoked? It seems somewhat callous to stir up trouble just to get a spirit to manifest so that investigators can gather information or so that they can witness activity on an active site only to leave the client’s with a potentially troublesome paranormal mess later on.

The truth of the matter is, provocation is unnecessary in a site where there is legitimate paranormal activity. If a client is already contacting you and complaining, a good percentage of the time the activity has been going on at a location for quite a while and has reached the point where it is either accelerating or simply spiraling out of control. To provoke something that is already causing chaos is not only unnecessary, it’s plain foolish and unwise. At minimum, a client’s paranormal problems may multiply; at most, the spirit responsible for activity may attack investigators or the people living in the home or the spirit or entity may decide that the individual’s that have provoked it make for an excellent target.

Angering a spirit is not the way to collect evidence, to get proof that paranormal activity is occurring, or to force the source of the activity to prove itself. It is far better to behave in a fashion that is totally respectful of the forces that are being dealt with than it is to stir up the anger of an entity. A good thought to keep in the back of your mind at all times are the wise words of Confucius: “When anger rises, think of the consequences.”
