Manly grew up as a free‐range college brat in North Carolina. He received an undergraduate degree from Pfeiffer College and Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University in New York City. After moving up the faculty ranks at Yale University, he moved to the University of Rochester where he now resides and terrorizes students in the introductory physics course sequences. Professor Manly works at high energy accelerators around the world where his research probes the structure of matter and the forces of nature. He frequently lectures on his research at international scientific conferences and has published over 150 articles in scientific journals.
Professor Manly’s abilities and efforts in teaching and outreach have been recognized nationally and locally. He was named the NY State Professor of the Year in 2003 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and was honored as the Mercer Brugler Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Rochester from 2002 to 2005. In 2007, he was named the recipient of the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award by the American Association of Physics Teachers.
Recently, Professor Manly completed Relativity and Quantum Physics for Beginners (Steerforth Press, November 2009) which is a light‐hearted, graphical look at two of the most exciting intellectual developments of the 20th century. In Visions of the Multiverse, Professor Manly takes the reader on a tour of different multiple universe reality concepts and explains in accessible terms wh it is many leading physicists are convinced that we are in the midst of a new Copernican revolution. Joan Ranquet, the author of Communication with All Life: Revelations of an Animal Communicator, has been an energy healer and animal communicator for several years. Joan earned her BFA in Theatre at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Following her time at the college, she studied acting in New York City at the Circle in the Square and has appeared in independent feature films, productions, and a variety of performance art pieces.
Joan has an independent practice, has worked with thousands of pet owners, trainers, vets, and animals, and she specializes in healing, medical issues, and in improving a pet owner’s understanding of animals. She also helps in finding lost cats and dogs as well as in assisting people dealing with the emotional loss of a pet. Joan teaches Basic and Advanced Communication as well as Animal Alchemy: a series involving body work and energy work with animals. She is an animal communicator on the psychic site 12listen.com, and she writes a column for The Pet Planet magazine.
Joan has been a featured guest on television and radio; she has been a guest on Dateline NBC, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and she is the celebrity animal communicator in a documentary on the AMC Channel.
